THE UMBRELLA BODY for trade unions is being described as a cancer that needs to be removed.
The broadside has come from general secretary of Unity Workers Union, Caswell Franklyn, who poured scorn on the body, saying it did not represent the movement and was deliberately siding with Government rather than its affiliates.
Insisting that Government was calling the tune in the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Association of Barbados (CTUSAB), Franklyn said the body needed to be done away with.
“CTUSAB needs to go. It is like a cancerous part of the body that needs to be cut off and hopefully the rest of the body will [recover]. Just recently, the Sanitation Service Authority came up and without consulting with the members of CTUSAB, which represent sanitation workers, CTUSAB [went] out there and favoured the Government,” he said yesterday.
