PORT OF SPAIN – Police were searching for the killers of a two people who were shot dead as they returned to their homes, ending a bloody weekend in Trinidad and Tobago.
Police said Narine Kalpoo and his common law wife Lutchmin Jaggernath had gone to Moveitowne, Chagunas in Central Trinidad with Jaggernath’s daughter Tracy Jaggernath and her boyfriend.
But after dropping off the couple and returning home, Kalpoo and his common-law wife, were ambushed. She was shot as she got out of the car and Kalpoo killed as he sat behind the wheel of the vehicle.
A motive for the killings was not immediately known.
Police also disclosed that a man known to them as “Roti” was shot and killed during a shootout with law enforcement officers on Saturday.
Police said 27-year-old Derrick “Roti” McIntosh was a suspect in several murders and shootings and attempts to apprehend him at a house in Princes Town, south of here, resulted in a shootout.
Police said McIntosh was shot in the abdomen and chest and a nine-millimetre pistol was recovered at the scene. Law enforcement officials are also searching for the gunmen who shot and killed three people and injured two others during a drive-by on Saturday in D’Abadie, along the east-west corridor.
The authorities said that those killed were Frank Joseph, his son Kevin Plaza, and another man, Ricardo Singh. Joseph’s other son, Roger Plaza, was shot in the head and is in critical condition at the Mount Hope Intensive Care Unit. A woman, Searle Murray, who was shot in the leg while hanging out clothes, was treated and discharged from hospital.
So far this year, 392 people have been murdered in Trinidad and Tobago. (CMC)
