THE NATION FUNATHALON is the place to be.

Like a blue surging sea with specs of gold many Barbadians turned out to celebrate Barbados’ 50th anniversary with the island’s No. 1 media house.

Before the wheelchair competitors, runners and walkers got on their mark for an evening of fun at the Garrison Savannah, St Michael, the vibes were pumping as they were led into an exercise warm-up by gym instructor Eareal Johnson.

“Look take off something and pelt it way,” Johnson was overheard saying as the popular bashment soca number by Stiffy played.

Around 4 p.m. chief executive officer Anthony Shaw, with a steady finger, triggered the start to the 5km walk towards Queens Park.

Amongst those “slamming tar” were BWU Deputy General Secretary, Dwain Paul who described it as an important community initiative and Principal of the Al Falah School Ibrahim Bhana, who said he was just in it for the fun with his students.

Young and old in blue and gold were seen sweating away in the fun event.

There will be more entertainment after the walk, including a cricket match. (MR)

Eighteen-month-old Anita Knight came out to represent today.
