THE STINK IN WORTHING, Christ Church, could soon develop into a public health crisis.
And according to an environmentalist attached to a leading non-governmental organisation, the signs of contamination are indisputable.
Programme coordinator of the Future Centre Trust, Tracey Edwards, said she believed the situation at Worthing was potentially dangerous to the water quality along the country’s South Coast, and hoped the relevant authorities would fast-track efforts to decrease the risk of exposure to people, and the marine environment.
Edwards’ comments came after she was invited by concerned people, as a representative of the Future Centre Trust, to inspect a sewage outflow near Gentle Breeze Apartments in Worthing.
She discovered raw sewage flowing heavily from a well and creating a pond between the apartments and a private home, before running onto the street and then into the canals leading to the sluice gate.
