Drug trafficker to spend 18 months at Dodds

A JAMAICAN WOMAN will spend the next 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to bringing $50 000 of cannabis into Barbados.

Police say 38-year-old Roxanne Rocky Simmons arrived in the island from Jamaica via Trinidad. 

Having cleared Immigration, she was searched by Customs and five taped packages containing cannabis were discovered in a false top of her suitcase. The drugs weighed four kilogrammes.

Simmons was handed over to police and subsequently charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

She appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District ‘C’ Magistrates’ Court and was fined $5 000 forthwith on the charge of possession and the same on the charge of importation.

The fines were not paid and Simmons was sentenced to two 18-month prison terms which will run concurrently.

She was reprimanded and discharged for the offence of trafficking and convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the offence of possession with intent to supply. (PR/NB)
