Don’t keep children ‘too close’

AN EDUCATOR SAYS more Barbadian parents need to allow their children to “leave the nest” earlier.

Modern foreign language teacher Gloria Hinds said that preparing children for life without their parents was more beneficial than cuddling them for as long as possible. The latter, she said, was regional culture and not what was practised in Europe.

She was speaking to WEEKEND NATION yesterday at Harrison College, where 25 students from Guadeloupe were taking English classes.

She highlighted an 11-year old student who was in her class and said that was a great age for parents to loosen their grips. (TG)
