THERE HAS BEEN a decrease in the number of fires reported to the Barbados Fire Service (BFS) – 1 346 so far for 2017 when compared to 1 362 over the same period in 2016 – but concern has been raised about the high number classified as undetermined.
Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard highlighted the concern as he addressed 19 participants of the Basic Fire Case Determination Course at the closing ceremony at the Arch Hall Fire Station, St Thomas, last Friday evening.
The course was intended to expand the participants’ knowledge in fire investigation. Typically a month-long course, it was compacted into five days where participants pursued areas such as using a systematic approach, investigation terminologies, reading burn patterns and interviewing, as well as the importance of articulating proper fire investigation reports.
Participants represented both the BFS and the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Service. (SDB Media)
