Victim was mother’s best friend

A LOVING MOTHER and someone who gave selflessly.

This was how 61-year-old Mary Downes, who was killed in a vehicular accident along the busy junction of Westmoreland on the Ronald Mapp Highway, was described during a vigil held in her memory on Monday evening.

Her sister Angela Downes said the mother of six played a motherly role in the St James community.

“She took everyone under her umbrella,” she said. (SB)
