Big stink

AN OVERFLOWING SKIP at the rear of the Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs (BARVEN) temporary market has that association’s president upset and pleading with Barbadians to stop putting their household garbage where people buy their vegetables.

Alastair Alexander said the overflowing skip had already put off customers and had caused the vendors who sell near the area not to come out yesterday.

“I came here this morning and found it like this,” Alexander told the SATURDAY SUN as he pointed to the overflowing skip.

“We have creepers; it is smelly. We found this morning a dead cat behind the container, and this is just unconscionable at this stage. We really would expect better of our fellow Barbadians to understand that this is a market and next door is a pre-school,” said an incensed Alexander. (HLE)
