The popularity of former Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, Wang Ke, was in evidence at her recent farewell reception.

There was an outpouring of good wishes at the Hilton function for the envoy who made friends in almost every sector of the society during her near four-year term of office. Diplomats, parliamentarians, students and officials from the Confucius Institute at the UWI Cave Hill Campus and representatives of NGO’s were among the large gathering of guests invited to the party.

Wang Ke gave an emotional farewell speech, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Maxine Mc Clean responded, speaking in glowing terms about the kind of bilateral relationship Wang Ke had managed to build between China and Barbados as well as the other cordial relationships in different sectors of the Barbados community.

But it was after the formalities that guests took the opportunity to individually express their personal thoughts and appreciation, with several people capturing the moment in individual photographs with Wang Ke. (GC)
