The job is far from finished for the Barbados Coast Guard and its Dominica relief efforts.

Last night around 8 o’clock, the HMBS Rudyard Lewis’ crew put the final supplies on board in preparation for another 12-hour ride to the hurricane-stricken island.

The captain, Lieutenant David Harewood, told the DAILY NATION the crew had only arrived yesterday morning, but were ready to continue their work after eight hours of loading supplies.

“We came along dockside around 0600 hours and we did the washing down and prepping again,” Hardwood said aboard the Coast Guard vessel.

“We’ve been loading from about 12 o’clock until now. We have a lot of water, a lot of medical supplies and we also have a lot of non-perishable foods because we recognise that is the major need in Dominica, especially when it comes to water,” he added.

Harewood said he expected the Lewis to return either by Thursday or Friday. (AD)
