Brittons Hill and the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) will clash in the final of the inaugural Barbados Football Association’s Williams Equipment Pre-season Cup at the Police Sports Complex, Weymouth, on Sunday.
Both teams recorded contrasting victories in Sunday’s semi-finals at the same venue. In the opening game, Brittons Hill came from behind to thrash Abrahams United Silver Sands 4-1, while BDFSP defeated Crane and Equipment Ellerton 2-1 in a hard-fought feature match.
Silver Sands opened the scoring in the first minute of the game when Chad King sneaked in at back post to hit a one-time volley from a Donte McClean cross past the Brittons Hill’s goalkeeper.
Silver Sands held the 1-0 lead right up to half-time, but Brittons Hill went on a goal rush in the second half, with the lanky Henderson Richards scoring a brace in the 58th and 74th minutes.
Central defender Rohan Hall was also on target in the 65th minute, while Denzil Fordyce sealed the outcome with an 87th-minute strike past Silver Sands’ stocky goalkeeper Jamal Moore.
In the nightcap match, two early goals by Damion Thorington (9th), and Omani Leacock (15th) were enough to see the BDFSP into the final, despite Zinio Harris reducing the lead with Ellerton’s lone goal in the 59th minute. (EZS)
