Schoolchildren in Barbados could soon be travelling in the comfort of tour buses.
Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley confirmed this yesterday, pointing out the ministry had been approached by owners of coaches who were willing to assist in moving schoolchildren.
This is as a result of the acute shortage of buses at the state-owned Transport Board which has led to children being stranded at some rural schools for several hours on afternoons or on mornings, unable to get to school on time.
“We have to speak to the Ministry of Education first about it, but the Ministry [of Transport] feels safer with the coaches. That is the preferred option, Lashley said, as he explained that owners of public service vehicles were also given a proposal “and are supposed to get back to us”. (MB)
