A former lover, who seemed not willing to let go, was ordered to compensate his ex-girlfriend and stay away from her.

Corey Antonio Rowe, 40, of Long Gap, Grazettes, St Michael, admitted assaulting Leandra Glasgow, occasioning her actual bodily harm, and stealing a $615 cellphone belonging to her on December 24.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Carrison Henry told the District “A” Magistrates’ Court both parties had been in a two-year relationship which ended in August, after Rowe had accused Glasgow of being in a relationship with another man.

He tried to reconcile and had gone to her mother’s house when he saw her being dropped off by another male and saw them kissing each other. Following that incident, a restraining order was placed against him, which was eventually dismissed after the complainant did not appear in court.

Following the incident, he again tried reconciling with his former lover and gave her money to replace her cellphone that she said was stolen from her home. Another fight about the man began over the phone and Rowe went to Glasgow’s home to confront her.

A fight broke out, where she slapped Rowe, and he hit her back. Family members had to part them, after which Rowe took up the cellphone and left.

Rowe told Magistrate Douglas Fredrick when he found out Glasgow was seeing “the guy”, he asked her back for the phone, she slapped him and he slapped her back.

Glasgow, who was also present, told the magistrate she only wanted Rowe to stay “far away from her”.

He was ordered to pay $500 compensation by tomorrow, or spend two weeks in jail. He must also stay away from the complainant for nine months or face three months in jail, and reprimanded and discharged on the assault charge. (RA)
