It has been work around the clock for the Mendes brothers, Gary and George, to be ready for today’s start of the Shelbury Construction June Safari.

Gary told the Saturday Sport the switch from the Mitsubishi L200 to a Toyota-powered Daihatsu Rocky for this event left them with plenty of work in the last few days.

“Getting it ready will be the difference between excellence and mastery. We don’t know yet about the driver challenges, but we want to make it to the finish line,” Gary said.

Mendes said the work included fitting a Webber carburettor, replacing the standard carburettor which is out of production, replacing the fuel line and wiring and getting the change of ownership paperwork in order to have the vehicle registered and licensed for the road. (TT)
