QEH Board ‘vital’

The issues impacting the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) are the reasons why the current structure of the QEH board needs to be in place.

That’s according to deputy chairman of the hospital’s board, Dr Abdul-Rehman Mohamed.

He made the comments on Starcom Network’s Down to Brasstacks radio call-in programme yesterday in response to a number of issues affecting the Martindale’s Road, St Michael institution, inclusive of the decision to appoint Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, wife of Government minister Dwight Sutherland, as the facility’s first executive chairman.

“The hospital is a very dynamic place and we need to have a structure that is very responsive. It has been in place for a little over a year, and we have been walking the floors and talking to people. It’s not a knee-jerk reaction. We took our time, analysed, accessed and recognised our needs in consultation with the Ministry of Health. It underlines the need for the changes with what is happening today,” he opined.

Mohamed said the hospital has a cadre of dedicated medical staff who want to work. “What is lacking is the support to get things done, and that frustrates a lot of them, and that is what we are focused on,” he insisted. (BA)
