A community health programmme to be rolled out by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in July will see a new category of health workers going into homes to administer care to outpatients.
According to the hospital’s Director of Medical Services Dr Clyde Cave, it is part of the hospital’s efforts to reduce hospital crowding in some areas of the hospital in the present COVIOD-19 environment.
Cave said these health workers’ function will differ from that of polyclinic community workers whose aim is “to prevent patients getting so ill that they present to the hospital.”
The new community health workers will “work with the specialist teams at the hospital to maintain the care in the community so that you do not have to be abandoned until your next clinic visit especially as those may be spaced out”, Cave explained. (GC)
