Pop band 2 Mile Hill has written a “love letter” to Barbados.

Big Love is the name of the local group’s latest single, a groovy song which stirs up warm, fuzzy feelings for most, if not all Barbadians, especially in this season of Independence.

Written by lead vocalist Mahalia and produced by keyboardist André “Black Man Chant” Clarke, the official video is on 2 Mile Hill’s YouTube channel.

“Big Love came about from a growing desire to connect with my love for my island and its people, and it became an opportunity to bring that authentic Bajan sound to the music.

“I started writing Big Love in 2017 around the same time as Talk To Me, but I really found the right way to express my thoughts and feelings during lockdown when our Prime Minister reminded us that we have to pull together to get through this pandemic. That lit the spark to get the lyrics finished, and after that Black Man Chant ran with it,” Mahalia said.

Big Love had been getting airplay, Clarke said, adding that the group was producing a video which hopefully “can be finished before Independence”.

In addition to performances and releasing music, the band hosts Mahalia’s Corner, which is “dedicated to discovering, enhancing and showcasing talent in Barbados”. It was shelved this year owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. (GBM)
