Time served for driver with bullets

The nine months that Andre Omar Burgess spent on remand for two bullets counted as his sentence when he reappeared in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday.

Burgess, of Baycroft New Road, Bridge Road, St Michael, had pleaded guilty, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to having two rounds of ammunition on September 29, 2019.

Yesterday Crown Counsel Romario Straker, who pointed to the Firearms (Amendment) Act, submitted Burgess’ case was one which did not involve a gun.

He said that “realistically” the court could probably impose between one or two years for the offence. However, he noted the courts usually imposed fines of between $1 200 to $3 000 for small quantities of bullets, but added the nine months Burgess had spent on remand would negate those amounts.
