COOLIDGE – John Campbell made a strong case for retention and Roston Chase sized up a recall to the West Indies Test squad for the international home series against Sri Lanka later this month in Antigua.

Campbell cracked 129 and Chase made 75 to lead Windies Squad B to 280 for seven in the first innings at the close on the first day of a four-day, intra-squad practice match at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

Campbell, a left-handed opener, struck 15 fours and three sixes from 253 balls in just under 5 ½ hours of batting and the wiry Chase supported with 10 fours from 159 balls in 3 ½ hours at the crease.

The pair shared 183 for the fourth wicket, after their side stumbled to 53 for three about 25 minutes before lunch, after being put in to bat.

No other batsman on their side reached 20.

Former Windies Under-19 pacer Jayden Seales was the pick of the bowlers with three from 42 from 15 overs and left-arm pacer Preston McSween took two for 40 from 20 overs.

The Caribbean side face the Sri Lankans in two Tests to be played from March 21 to 25 and March 29 to April 2 at the VRCG.

Summarised scores:

WEST INDIES SQUAD B 280 for seven (John Campbell 129, Roston Chase 75, Jermaine Blackwood 18, Nkrumah Bonner 16; Jayden Seales 3-42, Preston McSween 2-40) vs WEST INDIES SQUAD A.
