An 88-year-old Barbadian man with comorbidities is the latest person to succumb to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) after spending 18 days at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility. His death brings to 38, the number of people who have died from the virus.
A statement from Government also said 21 new positive cases of COVID-19 were identified on Sunday, March 14, while 41 people recovered from the viral illness.
The new positive cases were among the 237 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. The number of active cases is now 189.
The 21 people diagnosed as positive comprised ten women and 11 men. Eleven of them were already at the Harrison Point Isolation Facility undergoing assessment.
Barbados has recorded 3 442 confirmed cases – 1 634 females and 1 808 males – while 3 215 people have recovered since March 2020. The public health laboratory has so far completed 133 672 tests.
As part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, 593 people were vaccinated on Sunday.
To date, 52 290 vaccinations have been administered – 21 929 men and 30 361 women. (BGIS)
