For more than a month, businesses such as barbershops, salons and clothing stores have been holding strain as the country wrestled to get its positive COVID-19 cases down.

Now the green light has been given, they opened their doors yesterday to a grateful public, many of whom were either struggling to keep their hair and nails looking decent on their own, or simply growing it all out until their favourite barber, hairdresser or aesthetician was available.

Maxine Eastmond was among the first in the chair at Chanilo Beauty Salon in Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St Michael. For her it was a no-brainer.

“I had booked during the lockdown and as soon as I heard the Prime Minister make the announcement hairdressers could reopen, I was messaging to see when I could come. I like the service here and I like how my hair turns out,” she said.

Manager Nikita Neblett said the pace had been “moderate” so far and they used an appointment system to avoid clustering. (CA)
