Active COVID rise after audit

Barbados recorded 21 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

The new positives were identified from among the 573 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, while 23 people recovered and were discharged from isolation.

The number of active cases for March 17 is now recorded as 189, the result of an audit of the discharges for March. Yesterday, they were reported to be 147.

The 21 people diagnosed with the viral illness comprise four men and 17 women.

Since the pandemic began, there were 3 492 confirmed cases – 1 665 females and 1 827 males – and 3 264 people recovered. Thirty-nine people died from the virus.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 135 021 tests.

On Wednesday, 1 386 people were vaccinated as part of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19.

To date, 56 018 vaccinations were administered – 23 413 men and 32 05 women. (BGIS)
