Georgetown – The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Thursday said that two officers and four ranks are facing disciplinary action, including dismissal from the force, in relation to an allegation of rape.

In a statement, GDF said that it has since convened its own Board of Inquiry (BoI) to investigate the circumstances which led to the allegation of rape being levelled against the ranks.

With the investigation complete, the BOI found that the ranks seriously breached operational orders and were therefore disciplined accordingly.

The GDF said that four of the ranks have since been dismissed and the disciplinary process against two others is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force charged and placed before the court three of the ex-soldiers in relation to the rape allegation.

The police say that they are awaiting advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in relation to the fourth rank.

“Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force are bound by the values and standards of the force and as such their conduct and professionalism are of paramount importance,” said the GDF in a statement. (CMC)
