Over the next year, the Ministry of Health and Wellness is preparing to tackle non-communicable diseases (NCDs), wage war on the aedes aegypti mosquito, reduce the waiting lists for surgeries and overall improve the sector for the betterment of Barbadians.

With a budget allocation of $252 million for the next financial year starting April 1, Minister of Health and Wellness Jeffrey Bostic gave an insight into how some of the monies will be spent.

He was joined in the well of Parliament for the annual debate of Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure by officials, including permanent secretary Janet Phillips, chief medical officer Dr Kenneth George, executive chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, who fielded questions from parliamentary representatives on areas such as plans for health-related financing, plans to deal with cancer and NCDs, 24-hour polyclinics and the operations of the QEH.

Estimates Debates continue on Monday morning. (GBM)
