Government is not only batting for cricket but for other sports by spending thousands of dollars to refurbish and maintain facilities throughout Barbados.

Acting assistant director of sports at the state-run National Sports Council, Adrian Donovan, told Sun Sport that the costly ongoing infrastructural work, which includes the construction of new pavilions and hard courts in various communities and at schools, shows Government is assisting many different sporting disciplines.

“The million-dollar figure that the Honourable Prime Minister [Mia Mottley] announced that will be put into cricket is, of course, greatly appreciated, especially during these hard financial times when the health of society is under serious threat,” Donovan said.

Speaking at the virtual awards ceremony of the Barbados Cricket Association earlier this month, Mottley said it is her intention to create a Prime Ministerial Group on the establishment of a Barbadian cricket economy. (EZS)
