103 new virus cases

A total of 103 people (46 males and 57 females) were diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday, December 9, from among the 1 292 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The new cases comprised 19 people under the age of 18, and 84 who were 18 years and older.

The number of people in isolation facilities was 296, while 1 866 were in home isolation.

Three COVID-19 deaths were recorded on Thursday. A 43-year-old woman and 90-year-old man died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department.

They were both unvaccinated.

Additionally, a 94-year-old woman passed away from the viral illness at the Blackman and Gollop Isolation Facility. She was partially vaccinated. As at December 9, there were 249 deaths from the virus.

The public health laboratory has carried out 448 856 tests since February last year, and recorded 26 668 cases (12 698 males and 13 970 females) of COVID-19.

Under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign, the total number of people with at least one dose is 154 334 (67.6 per cent of the eligible population).

The total number of people who are fully vaccinated is 139 285 (51.4 per cent of the total population or 61 per cent of the eligible population).
