Weather forecasters in Barbados are closely monitoring the progress of a tropical wave and an associated area of low pressure to the east of the island.

According to a weather bulletin from the Barbados Meteorological Services, the weather system was located 1510 kilometres (940 miles) to the east of the island at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

The main concern for weather forecasters is the likely impact the movement of the system will have on the high temperatures being currently felt in the island.

“This system does not pose any direct threat to Barbados as it passes well north of the island,” the weather bulletin from the BMS stated. “However, this will result in a reduction in wind speeds, and therefore conditions will remain warm.”

On the progress of the system, the weather bulletin stated it “remained disorganised at this time, over the past 24 hours it has become slightly better organised”.

The weather bulletin added: “Models presently are inconsistent with the intensity and forward speed of the system with arrival somewhere near the northern Leewards sometime later this week as the system moves west-northwestward over the next few days.”
