Concerned about the recent spate of gun violence, the private sector is planning to send a letter to the Government to hold discussion on the issue.

Speaking at annual Business Luncheon and Discussion held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre and attended by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, president of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Anthony Branker, said the country’s reputation as a safe destination was at risk.

“Having a safe and peaceful place to live is at the forefront of our minds. Barbados has always been praised as a safe destination for businesses and has gained the reputation of being one of the safest places in the Caribbean. This is the Barbados that we have loved and want to maintain.

“Like many Barbadians, the business community is quite concerned about the level of gun violence scourging across this land. Our concern is even more heightened given that we are entering into our tourist season,” Branker said.

“In this regard, the BPSA [Barbados Private Sector Association] is soon to dispense a letter to Government seeking an audience, so that the private sector can better understand the plan to combat this blight on our society,” he added. (Nation News)
