WI cricket faces ‘serious threat’

West Indies cricket may come under serious threat of survival if the best players in the Caribbean continue to choose franchise Twenty20 leagues over international matches.

This was the damning assessment given by a three-member panel appointed by Cricket West Indies (CWI) to investigate the failure of the West Indies team to get past the final qualifying stage of the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup last year in Australia.

“It is essential that some middle ground is arrived at,” the report, authored by former Windies captain Brian Lara, international coach Mickey Arthur, and senior judge Patrick Thompson stated. “Otherwise, West Indies cricket may cease to exist as an entity. (AR)
