The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) will commence nightly shut-offs to some areas in St James, St Thomas and St Andrew from January 26 to February 2.

These outages will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily to allow the BWA to safely sanitise its newly constructed facility at Apes Hill prior to putting it into operation.

Areas which will be affected include Apes Hill Development, Orange Hill Development, Endeavour Nos. 1, 2 & 3, Walcott’s Road, Jackmans Alley and Deans Town Terrace in St James; Plumtree and Rock Hall in St Thomas; and Apes Hill and Turners Hall in St Andrew.

BWA tanker crews will make every effort to assist customers in the affected districts as a temporary measure, however, people are advised to store water to use during these periods. Residents are cautioned that there may be some discolouration in the water immediately following the resumption of the water supply.

Meanwhile, the BWA also announced that pumping from the stations which supply water to St Michael, St Thomas and St James resumed on Wednesday. However, customers in the affected areas may continue to be impacted by low pressure or water outages until the pressures in the distribution network return to normal.

Emergency repairs on the 12-inch main at St Stephen’s in St Michael were partially completed yesterday. However, completion of the works will be scheduled for later and the public alerted prior to it being done.

Water tankers will continue to assist customers in the affected areas in the interim.  (PR/SAT)
