Family fears tree threat

A family living next to the St Leonard’s Anglican Church is fearing for their lives.

The threat comes from a large mahogany tree which appears to be rotten. A piece of it has already fallen off.

“Around six weeks ago, around 2 a.m., we heard this big noise and when we looked out, we see half of the tree had fallen,” said Abdullah Makda, who lives along St Leonard’s Avenue, Westbury Road, near the guard wall bordering church property.

The tree looms over Makda’s house and he fears that should more bad weather occur, there was the possibility the rest of the tree could come down on his home. However, he said church officials were taking too long to deal with it.

“I wrote a letter to the church and spoke to the preacher, who told me they would look into the matter,” he said. (CA)
