AUSTRALIA WOMEN overpowered their West Indian counterparts on Monday night to register an overwhelming win by nine wickets and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 International series.

In the match played at Kensington Oval before a sprinkling of spectators who braved the inclement weather that caused the game to start an hour late, the home team turned in another subpar batting display to score 97 for nine after being sent in.

Windies, compounded their dire situation with error-strewn out cricket that allowed the tourists to coast to 98 for the loss of a single wicket off 14.3 overs.

Australia’s opening bat/wicketkeeper Allysa Healy tore into the Windies bowlers to stroke an unbeaten 58 off 43 balls with ten fours, taking full toll for the two chances she was gifted by West Indies’ fielders.

She and Beth Mooney put on 44 in the power play before Mooney miscued a lofted drive to be caught in the covers off leg-spinner Afy Fletcher.

Healy sprang into action from the first over of the innings, spanking three fours off pacer Shamilia Connell who should, however, have had the last laugh if only Sheneta Grimmond, fielding at mid-on had been more alert after Healy spooned an attempted pull shot off the final delivery.
