Apprentice jockey Lester Edwards made a brilliant tactical move at the three-furlong mark, which proved decisive in securing a victory for his mount Whatyouthink in yesterday’s feature at the Garrison Savannah.
His decision resulted in a mini upset of the favourites Sing Sing and Silver Bullet in the Life Begins At 50 Handicap, sponsored by NJC Thermal Covers (UK) Limited, over 1 800 metres for four-year-olds and older rated 55-37.
Aazam and Prince Hector went to the lead and controlled the pace until the pursuing pair of Whatyouthink and Donicodidit forced an increase in the tempo.
The quicker pace was too hot for the former leaders and they fell away. Donicodidit, after giving it his all, surrendered as the runners approached the mile-pole, leaving the Mr Brian-owned, Naz Issa-trained Whatyouthink in a threatening position. (LY)
