BARBADOS PRIDE’s rich legacy as the most successful team in regional cricket was revitalised yesterday with a resounding seven-wicket victory over the reigning kings, Guyana Jaguars, at Kensington Oval.
Not since the two-run win at Providence in Guyana in 2014 had the traditionally-strong Barbados beaten Guyana in first-class cricket. It was also seven years after they last tasted victory on home soil against their opponents in the Regional Four-day Cricket Championship.
Two of the country’s fledgling fast bowlers, Keon Harding and Chemar Holder, engineered the win, bowling with pace and passion on the final day to bruise and batter the usually indomitable Guyanese batsmen into submission.
Resuming from 141 for three overnight, still 39 runs in arrears, Guyana Jaguars, after some early resistance, were routed for 258 on the final day of the second round match on the grassy pitch with generous bounce.
Diminutive left-hander Vishaul Singh top-scored for the Jaguars with a resolute 79 which spanned 284 minutes and contained 14 fours off 169 balls.
