DEACONS announced their arrival to the Premier League in fine style with a 3-0 domination of Abrahams United Silver Sands on the opening Saturday night of the Barbados Football Association’s 2020 season at the Wildey Turf.
Brittons Hill earned a crucial 2-1 win over a determined Wotton side while in the night cap, Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame narrowly hung on to win 3-2 against Empire Club.
A double strike for ace forward Keon Atkins steered Deacons to a comfortable victory against a shell-shocked Silver Sands side lacking a creative spark in attack. Head coach Corey Greaves was pleased with his team’s display and hinted at their chances in the league this season.
“The win is a testament to the work we put in over the last weeks. We started our preparation before Christmas and you saw the result tonight, so I’m very confident we can compete well with everyone,” he said.
Deacons skipper Ricardo Carter nudged his side into the lead in the seventh minute after pouncing on a cross from the left.
