SWIMMING SENSATION Danielle Titus will be hoping to clock an Olympic qualifying time when the national swimming team competes at this weekend’s Union Americana de Natacion (UANA) Swimming Cup in Lima, Peru.
With a personal best time of one minute, 04.60 seconds in the 100 metres backstroke, Titus will need to better her time by two seconds to reach the Olympic ‘B’ standard of 1:02.06.
The 17-year-old, who holds multiple backstroke records across divisions, is said to be working extremely hard and hopes are high that she makes that qualification a reality.
The ‘A’ standard which guarantees a spot at the Olympics stands at 1:00.25.
Alex Sobers, who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Jack Kirby, Luis Sebastian-Weekes and Danielle Treasure are also hoping to make the cut for this year’s Olympics in Tokyo, Japan but will be competing in other meets in the upcoming weeks.(RG)
