Barbados’ COVID-19 curfew law has been described by a magistrate as badly drafted.
Magistrate Graveney Bannister said yesterday while a section of the Emergency Management (COVID-19) Curfew No 3 Directive, 2020, spoke of the hours 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., another section referred to a curfew from April 15 to May 3 “without more, which would mean it would be a total shutdown”.
He said it was “far safer” for police “to arrest someone or to deal with someone after 6 p.m. or at night-time, rather than trying to make a 12-hour curfew into a 24-hour curfew”.
But a prosecutor countered that the law was not badly drafted and must be read in its entirety.
