A tropical wave is located several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands, says the National Hurricane Centre.

Some slight development of this system is possible today before environmental conditions become hostile for development on Tuesday.

It has a low (10 per cent) chance of formation during the next 48 hours and five days. The wave is forecast to move through the Lesser Antilles on Tuesday and could produce locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds on some of those islands.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Five was upgraded to Tropical Storm Edouard last night.

At 11 a.m., the centre of Tropical Storm Edouard (left) was located over the far North Atlantic Ocean about 435 miles (700 km) south-southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland. It’s moving toward the northeast near 37 mph (59 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center.

No significant change in strength is forecast before Edouard becomes post-tropical later today. (PR/SAT)
