The Barbados Meteorological Services has upgraded a flash-flood watch for northern and northwestern districts to a flash-flood-warning.

The warning will be terminated at 6 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant.

A flash-flood warning is issued when flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period (generally less than six hours) is occurring or is imminent.

The Met Office said maximum rainfall accumulations of 50.0 to 75.0 mm and possibly isolated higher amounts in heavy to violent showers are imminent.

Residents and visitors should note that the following are also likely:

• Strong runoff from higher elevations.

• Soil erosion on bare or scarred land surfaces.

• Debris such as rocks, mud and foliage could end up on roads and property.

• Traffic delays.

• Flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads.

Residents and visitors are advised to remain vigilant.
