Christian Maxwell became the first seeded casualty when the ICBL Open Tennis Nationals continued on Saturday night at the National Tennis Centre.

Maxwell, who was ranked sixth, fell to well-built six-footer Curt Seifert 1-6, 6-7. After being outmuscled in the first set Maxwell battled to stay alive before being edged after a fascinating duel in the second.

The other seeds, Kaipo Marshall (No. 2), Ryan Moseley (No. 3), Stephen Slocombe (No. 4) and Kodi Lewis (No. 7) all strolled into the next round.

Marshall blasted Tyler Baptiste off the court 6-0, 6-0 while Moseley won the opening set from former Davis Cup player Craig Smith 6-2 before Smith retired in the second. (KB)
