The push is on to get schools ready for the new term, which begins Monday, but for one school it is looking like the middle of next month before physical classes can resume.

While industrial cleaning and major classroom adjustments continued at several primary and secondary schools across the island yesterday, workmen were carrying out extensive repairs at St Giles Primary School in The Ivy, St Michael.

Last month Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw had announced that the roof and flooring there needed extensive refurbishment, so alternative arrangements had been made for staff and pupils.

Yesterday, site foreman Martin Corbin estimated the job would be completed by October 15. (TG)
