by TIM SLINGERAN APPARENT MURDER-SUICIDE attempt shook the small neighbourhood of The Woods, The Ivy, St Michael, early yesterday.Callista “Theresa” Alleyne, a popular fruit and vegetable vendor, who operated a stall along My Lord’s Hill, St Michael, just opposite the Texaco Gas Station, was found dead in the backyard of her home shortly before 6 a.m. The nude body of the 51-year-old St Lucian-born woman, with multiple wounds to the head and shoulders, lay in its own blood.Next to the deceased was a basin of water and a calabash – an indication that a savage attack had ended Alleyne’s life as she was about to take an early morning bath. And late last night, a 53-year-old man with life-threatening injuries to the throat, was under police watch at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).The injuries are believed to have been self-inflicted. The man reportedly left a handwritten note.Sources said the couple were experiencing domestic problems over the last several days. One of the scores of residents who had gathered at the scene said Alleyne had only moved into the Ivy home about three weeks ago.“She was a nice woman. I don’t know why she had to get cut up and killed so,” she said.Sources also indicated that a cutlass and a knife believed to have been used in the killing were recovered from the scene.Reports stated that Alleyne had received several threats to her life prior to her untimely death.
