Chris Gayle has given the people of the Caribbean 333 reasons  to smile.
The powerful left-hander established a host of records en route to a monumental triple-century on the second day of the first cricket Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium yesterday.
Gayle’s 333 – among other things – was the highest Test score by a West Indian outside the Caribbean, the highest Test score against Sri Lanka and the highest Test score at the ground.
In the process, Gayle, whose previous best was 317, also became only the fourth player in Test history to score two triple centuries, joining legendary Australian Don Bradman (334 and 309), double world-record holder Brian Lara (375 and 400*) and Indian opener Virender Sehwag (309 and 319).
Here, Gayle, who started the day on 219, celebrates after reaching 300.
