BARBADOS HAS LAUNCHED a new phase in educational opportunities for people with disabilities following the opening of a $20 million state-of-the-art facility.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart yesterday hailed the new institution, with its collection of one- and two-story buildings, many green spaces, a playpark, football field, auditorium and retail outlet, saying it “satisfies a need that it would have taken the Government of Barbados in existing circumstances many years to accomplish”.

And pointing to the high cost of stimulation and other equipment needed in education programmes for people with disabilities, Minister of Education Ronald Jones told reporters, “This [facility] adds a needed component to our efforts in working with special needs children.” (TY)
