Sir Hugh Worrell Springer (1913 – 1994)

SIR HUGH HELD MANY positions of importance throughout his life such as parliamentarian, politician, organiser and General Secretary of the Barbados Worker’s Union.

He was also Governor General of Barbados, the post he held four years before his death.

He also attracted the membership of agricultural workers straight through to white collar workers to the Barbados Workers’ Union.

As a man with many academic achievements, he held three commonwealth positions, Commonwealth Education Liaison Unit; Commonwealth Assistant Secretary-General and Secretary-General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
