Mia warns youth about smoking

OPPOSITION LEADER Mia Mottley is appealing to young Barbadians to avoid smoking, warning the addictive practice “will harm you in many ways”.

She admitted to her parliamentary colleagues yesterday that she was struggling to quit smoking.

Minister of Health John Boyce had earlier made a comprehensive presentation to the House of Assembly during the First Reading of the Health Services (Amendment) Bill that extends the ban on public smoking to include e-cigarettes, as well as their sale to minors.

Giving her support to the amendment which was passed, Mottley urged Government to go further and engage the population in “conversations” that would encourage them to cease habits that contributed to the high incidence of non-communicable disease among the population. (GC)
