BOXING is down but not out for the count.
Edward “Yogi Bear” Neblett, one of the best fighters to come out of Barbados, told the SATURDAY SUN that boxing can make a revival but much work had to be done.
Neblett said he plans to spearhead the drive by promoting a pro-am card next month, labelled Boxing Revival, slated for November 7 at the Wildey Gymnasium.
“Boxing has been down for a long time but I know there are several youths [who] if given the chance and pushed in the right direction, will come out of the woodwork.
“I have plans to go out in the communities, doing free exhibitions. I want to work with the youths, encourage them to get off the streets and stop the violence, let them vent their frustrations in the ring.
“I can’t give up on boxing, boxing never gave up on me. Boxing will come back but it will take a while, you have to creep before you walk. There is still interest in the sport,” he said.
