ROSEAU – Representatives from the two main political parties yesterday signed a code of conduct ahead of the December 6 general election.
The meeting was summoned by President Charles Savarin, who along with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and representatives of the ruling Dominica Labour Party, and leader of the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton and his representatives, agreed to promote peace in the days leading up to the polls.
According to a statement issued following the meeting, Savarin addressed the current climate of unease, the recent violence within the context of a call for electoral reform and other matters, and asked for feedback and discussion on current events.
He also confirmed that this was part of a wider process of engagement with community-based organisations and key stakeholders in moderating the risk of conflict creating anarchy into and beyond general elections. (CMC)
