Bajans hold on for a draw

A match-saving defiant unbroken seventh-wicket partnership of 15 in 20.1 overs between Kemar Brathwaite and Darnell Greenidge earned Barbados a hard-fought draw against Jamaica on the final day of their third- round match in the WICB Regional under-19 Championship yesterday.
With Barbados reeling on 53 for six, Greenidge linked up with Brathwaite and thwarted the defending champions’ effort of gaining their first win.
Brathwaite finished on 20 and Greenidge one, as Barbados trailing by 142 on first innings, reached 68 from 86 overs when the match ended.  
Brathwaite faced 184 deliveries in 186 minutes, while Greenidge batted for an hour in his 52-ball innings.
Earlier, for the third straight day, play started late due to wet conditions. This time, a saturated bowler’s run-up at the southern end meant the entire first session was lost.
Openers Craig St Hill and Shayne Moseley batted solidly as runs were hard to come by a pitch which offered some assistance to the spinners.  
At 22, Moseley was run out at the striker’s end after there was a bit
of indecision after a drive by St Hill to mid-off.  
St Hill was lbw playing across to off-spinner Oshane Walters for 13.
Jamaica sent down 42 overs in the extended session and Barbados crawled to 37 for two.
Shai Hope survived a very confident appeal for a catch at the wicket off the last ball before tea, as he attempted to cut at a faster delivery.
In the fourth over on resumption, Jamaica got the prize wicket of Hope who was run out in a terrible mix-up with Brathwaite.
After a push to mid-on by Hope, the two batsmen ended up in the same crease at the striker’s end where the ball was thrown.
Afterwards the ball was thrown to the non-striker’s end and after some consultation by the umpires, Hope was adjudged out.  He faced 85 balls in his 79 minutes at the crease.
Jameel Stuart was bowled for the second time in the match by Christopher Powell as he elected to stay on the back foot. His pull to long-leg was the only boundary of the innings.
The usually aggressive Marlon Welcome-Goodman was kept quiet and faced 28 balls without scoring. He was well caught low down at mid-off by James McDonald from off-spinner Delbert Gayle.
Aaron Jones failed to get a stride in and was lbw in Gayle’s next over also for nought. Gayle took two for 14 from 29 overs.
